Advanced Manufacturing Launches New Special Issue: Innovations in Laser-Based Advanced Manufacturing
Advanced Manufacturing (AM) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Special Issue entitled “Innovations in Laser-Based Advanced Manufacturing.” This Special Issue aims to highlight scientific and technological advances in laser-based manufacturing processes, materials, and systems, providing a platform for researchers and practitioners worldwide to share innovative approaches and engineering solutions for next-generation manufacturing. As demand grows for high-performance, green, and intelligent manufacturing, laser technologies have become increasingly important in advanced manufacturing due to their precision, non-contact operation, and programmable delivery of energy. By enabling controlled thermal, mechanical, and optical interactions with materials, lasers offer significant opportunities for precision processing, micro- and nanoscale fabrication, surface engineering, and the development of advanced materials. However, challenges remain in process design and optimization, manufacturing uniformity, real-time monitoring, cost reduction, long-term stability, and scalability. Addressing these challenges is essential to advancing laser-based manufacturing technologies and expanding their industrial applications. This Special Issue focuses on innovative approaches to laser-based advanced manufacturing, covering fundamental mechanisms, emerging processing technologies, materials development, process modeling, property control, and intelligent monitoring. It welcomes research that advances the understanding of laser–material interactions and translates scientific discoveries into practical manufacturing solutions.Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:Advances in understanding transient phenomena in pulsed lasers and their emerging manufacturing applicationsBreakthroughs in achieving nanoscale and atomic-scale manufacturing resolutionLaser-based manufacturing of novel materials for high-performance applicationsInnovative hybrid manufacturing approaches combining laser processing with mechanical, chemical, magnetic, optical, or other energy fieldsLaser shock effects and their applications in advanced manufacturingMultiscale and multiphysics theories, models, and numerical simulations that advance laser-based manufacturingNew methods for predicting, tailoring, and controlling material propertiesEngineering solutions to improve manufacturing scalability, reduce costs, and enhance process stability and uniformityPrecise and effective monitoring techniques for laser-based manufacturing processesThis Special Issue is edited by Prof. Yaowu Hu (Wuhan University, China), Prof. Chang Ye (Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China), Associate Prof. Qinghua Wang (Southeast University, China), and Associate Prof. Siyu Liu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China), who bring expertise in relevant areas of advanced manufacturing, materials processing, and engineering. Researchers worldwide are warmly invited to submit original research articles and high-quality review papers.Submission deadline: 30 June 2027Article Processing Charges (APCs): APCs are fully waived for all manuscripts submitted by 31 December 2026. Beginning 1 January 2027, an APC of USD 800 (excluding VAT) will apply to each accepted manuscript. All submissions will undergo the journal’s standard rigorous peer-review process. For more information and submission guidelines, please visit the Special Issue webpage or contact the editorial office at advmanufact@elspub.com.
