Russian experience in the protection of the historic urban landscape

Abstract
The purpose of article is to introduce the experience of Russia in the protection and regeneration of the historic urban environment and to provide an overview of the urban planning approach for the protection of heritage in Russian cities. The approach includes: the historical review of the development of heritage protection regulatory system; analyzing the Russian legislation; analyzing the historic urban landscape theoretical background; providing a case of study of Moscow city and its historic site Ivanovskaya Gorka and architectural ensemble surrounding Khitrov Square; the methods and strategies for the protection of the historic urban landscape are introduced.
